About the Author
Scott Weeden is a fourth-generation Oklahoman whose great-grandfather moved to Indian Territory in 1886. My grandfather recalled driving up what would become Depot Hill in 1887 when Purcell was built. They settled about a mile northwest of Scott’s childhood home of Washington, Okla. He watched many Indian Territory Rodeos on the Fourth of July from the top of Red Hill, which prominently overlooks the South Canadian River. Scott is a journalist, poet and novelist with an abiding interest in Western history.
